I have seen Dark Tranquillity live again. They are finishing up the US tour, and played in San Francisco in Slim's last night, April 12. My friend and I went to see them, The Haunted, Into Eternity and Scar Symmetry. I must say that that was quite a package.
We arrived almost in time, and got in quickly after the usual body search. Hell, they have a girl doing that, so I didn't mind. Scar Symmetry was already on stage and kicking. It was good, modern melodic death yet anticlimactic.
Into Eternity, the only american band (they're from Canada) in the tour, went on stage. They play good music: amazing guitar work and sound, more than adequate drumming, and the frontman who actually can sing. Yet they did look a little like a bunch of dorks on stage, and the performance was just a tad strained, not enough flow. I find it typical of younger bands, which they are. Their albums can trick you easily though, there's nothing amateur in the music. I guess that they're just tired. It's the end of a long tour after all.
Dark Tranquillity hit the stage next, and for me that was a highlight, and undoubtedly the best part of the show by far. I pushed forward towards the stage dragging my non-metal friend behind. We ended up squeezed in the third row from the stage, ahead of the mosh pit. Awesome shit!
The Haunted went last. I must admit that I was pleasantly impressed by Peter Dovling's stage presence. He really looks like he takes his music to heart. The picture on the right is him and The Haunted. You probably cannot tell but that's as far as the camera in my cell phone goes. The first picture is of Dark Tranquillity, although it is totally blurred.
