Guys and gals, if you are to buy a CD or a DVD ever again, please, do yourself and everyone a favor and check that that disk is not backed by RIAA. It's just not cool anymore. RIAA should not be tolerated. Fortunately, there is a really simple way to do the checking: the RIAA Radar site. You search the name of the album, and RIAA Radar tell you whether the disk in question is backed by RIAA or not. Literally takes a few seconds.
RIAA stands for Recording Industry Association of America. It represents interests of several recording companies that control over 90% of music sold in the United States. For years now it has been manipulating the US and worldwide legal system to terrorize and extort money from their own customers in order to protect their virtual monopoly.
Please note that not all the music is backed by RIAA. I dare say that the best music is not, according to my taste. Most independent and smaller labels are not part of it. I have checked my collection, and it seems that less than 10% of it has any ties to RIAA. I was not making a concious effort to avoid RIAA in the past, so the result is indicative. Now, you may not share my musical interests (most of you do not) but you cannot deny that I am picky about the music I listen to, and I believe that I listen to the quality stuff. That number, less than 10% of RIAA-backed music in my collection, goes to show you that you are not likely to miss on much if you avoid RIAA stuff altogether.
